    Why - The reason I say this is because the other answers didnt even occur in this event or dosen't make sense.

    Increased sectional tensions as eventually this would lead to a debate if these new territories should be slave states or free states AND debates in regards to why the US paid so much money for territory they rightfully won through conquest.
