With the takeover of Oudh, Britain hurt the sentiment of Indians.

    Explanation:

Coohill added the economic reason for the rebellion by stating that cutting the salaries of soldiers had a deep impact on them. Secondly, Oudh has been a symbol of historical and cultural importance. By annexing the region under the Doctrine of lapse had been taken as an insult by the Indians. As the historian Joseph Coohill mentioned in the "Indian Voices from the 1857 Rebellion," in 2207 that the outbreak of rebellion spread quickly because of the local discontent among the people against the British outrage.
