There were new steamboats that could travel in less time, railroads were built so huge quantities of raw marterial could be moved and roads also improved. In India the railroad played an important role in improving tranportation. In terms of communication, the key invention that changed completely the lives of many people was the telegraph, invented during the 1830s and 1840s by Samuel Morse. The telegraph revolutionized long-distance communication. It worked by sending electrical signals over a wire laid between stations. The telegraph was important because it allowed messages to be sent very quickly across great distances. In the USA, the main way in which the telegraph improved American life during this time was by facilitating big businesses to operate.
