Steve can run 3.5 miles in 30 minutes. If Steve increases his rate by 1/2 mile per hour, how far will he run in 2 hours?

    first you think, if he can run 3.5 miles in 30 minutes. that means he can run 6 miles per hour. but if he increases that by 1/2 mile per hour then he can run 6.5 miles per hour.

    Next, you set up your equation, y = 6.5x. Than, substitute in your numbers, y = 6.5 (2).

    Finally, solve and get 13 miles.

    Work:

    3.5*2 = 6 y = 6.5x y = 13

    6 + (1/2) = 6.5 y = 6.5 (2)

    Steve can run 13 miles in 2 hours
