    Estelle v. Gamble (1976)

    Explanation:

    J. J Gamble was injured during his prison term in the Texas Department Of Correction. His request for chest and back pains were ignored by the prison authorities. When he filed a written document in Court, The Supreme Court of the United States set the standard for violation of the Eighth Amendment under which a prisoner can plead. The Court found that the ignorance about the prisoner's health was unintentional. The court also established the principle that if prison authorities fail to provide medical care to inmates, it would constitutes "cruel and unusual punishment".
