    In McCulloch v. Maryland, the Supreme Court established that Congress had the power to establish a national bank. This was a landmark case in that it also granted Congress the ability implement implied powers not expressly stated in the Constitution and also that states could not impede on powers expressly granted to the federal government in the Constitution.
