How did the Great War for the Empire become a "global war," and how did Britain carry out its part in the struggle?

    The Great War became a global war as most of europe had colonies world wide. Britain got involved as unknown to Germany, Britain had an alliance with Belgium. This meant that if Belgium got invaded Britain would step in. So when Germany tried to attack France through Belgium, the UK had no option but to fight back.
