The national government gained more power of the economy as a result of World War I. This included the creation of the War Industry Board and the food rationing program developed by the US Food Administration.

The War Industry Board was a government agency that oversaw the production of war-related materials. This agency had powers that no other government agency had before, as they had the ability to what products to make and how much to make of that product. Along with this, they were even able to manipulate the prices of goods as need be.

Besides this, the US government launched the Lever Food and Fuel Control Act. This program made it so that resources were rationed out to American citizens. This was to ensure that there were enough resources for the American military to be successful.
