    C. Membership in the Knights of Labor declined.

    Explanation:

During this event, a bomb was thrown at a police force; several policemen and workers were killed, after which law enforcement officers opened fire on the protesters. This event served as a pretext for the arrest of 8 anarchists and, by a court verdict on November 11, 1887, four of them were hanged.

After the events in Chicago, trade union organizations (for example, the Knights of Labor) tried to distance themselves from the anarchists, and public opinion sided with the authorities.

The Knights' membership collapsed following this riot.
