    In the Munich Conference of 1938, European leaders allowed Hitler to take over Czechoslovakia in hopes that once the Nazi's controlled this territory, he would stop trying to take over different parts of Europe. This appeasement policy backfired however, as this only made Hitler more aggressive. A year later World War II began.
