    obstruction justice, with abuse of power for political purposes, defying Judiciary Committee subpoenas, and tax evasion. After learning that he could do nothing about the impeachment when he lost most of his supports in the congress, he resign on August 9, 1974. Popularly called the Watergate scandal, the scandal began with the June 17, 1972, break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate Office Building in Washington, D. C., and the Nixon administration's attempted to cover-up of its involvement.
