    C. To avoid the mistakes of World War 1From the word itself 'neutrality' or 'neutral' (rootword) meaning not taking sides in a conflict. The US did not want to take sides in either countries involved because of the damages done by the first world war. To side with the allies or Axis is obviously not the main goal of neutrality acts of the 1930's, though, the US army actually sided with the Allies due to Japan's attack to Pearl Harbor. And Japan is part of the Axis powers.
