What was the purpose of marriage in the Renaissance

    I think in the Italian Renaissance it would be to unite families.

    The believed the marriage of women and men the woman's purpose was to solely obey and serve the man. So far, it seems it would be that they wanted the children to serve, without them having to do any work. As it was all the same around that era of time.
