    Answer: Americans traditionally conceives themselves as a freedom loving nation that brings freedom to all the people in the world. In a way it is a belief in providence, belief that history (God) uses them for the good of all the world

    Explanation: Americans identify themselves with the progressive aspect of French history (Enlightenment, French revolution) and progressive aspect of British history (self-government, British protestantism = first nation that got independence on papacy under Elizabeth I, political and economic liberalism, fight against autocracy at home - Stuarts - and in the world - Phillip II of Spain etc etc.)
