China has embraced Westernization after Opium Wars in the 1840s after which the old period of Chinese has ended and the modernization started. The new system, known as capitalism was introduced in China.

Explanation:

Capitalism that was embraced, was the consequence of rapid industrialization. Although this didn't led to economical prosperity at once, it had a lot do to with the development of capitalism in the country. This was one of the most important transitional parts of Chinese history.
