When the first two political parties developed in the late 1700s, what issue divided them most clearly? whether the nation should add states and territories or colonize Canada whether the federal government or the states should have more power whether the government should take over Native American lands in exchange for citizenship whether people should own slaves or free all slaves

    Slavery divided them most definitely. The North was opposed to slavery completely and the South was for slavery. Britain gained much of Canada's territory after the seven years war so America was not focused on it at this time. Instead they focused on westward expansion which then caused issues with the Native Americans because they were imposing themselves on native soil.
