    Chief Justice John Marshall was the longest serving chief justice in the history of USA. He worked as chief justice for thirty years and played an important role in making of the American legal system. His most important addition was the judicial review so that the powers who stop the laws violate the constitution could be stopped. He worked from February 4, 1801 till 1835. He also served as Secretory of State under President John Adams. He was from Virginia and belonged to the Federalist Party.

    Marbury vs. Madison established the principle of Judicial review in US. Judicial review means that the court could government could strike down government actions and laws that violate the constitution. It is considered to be the most important decision in American constitutional law.
