The Ohio River Valley was near the coast and offered trade opportunities. The Ohio River Valley had good farmland and control over rivers.     The French Indian War was fought from 1754 to 1763 between England and France because both countries wanted to control the Ohio River Valley. The region had plentiful natural resources and was key to the fur trade. France said this was part of its territory and Great Britain sad it was its own territory in that it was part of Virginia.
