Of the total exports of New Mexico, Arizona, Texas and California, 44.6, 40.6, 37.6 and 16.2%, respectively, are destined for the Mexican Republic, so they must be the main stakeholders in maintaining healthy commercial relations with Mexico.

During 2015, the United States sent goods to Mexico worth $ 229 billion, of which $ 132.2 billion was contributed by border states, according to information from the United States Census Bureau. Only the state of Texas participated with more than 41% of the total exported value.

    Explanation:

Thus, three of the four border states are listed among the five that exported the highest value to Mexico: Texas, California and Arizona. The other two states on the list are Michigan and Illinois, which export $ 11 billion and $ 9 billion to the southern neighbor, respectively.

Thus, New Mexico, Arizona, Texas and California are the only four states in the American Union whose first trading partner is Mexico.

Texas within all the named countries, is the one that maintains the most trade with Mexico.

The states of Texas and California are the most relevant for the United States economy as a whole, representing more than 21% of total GDP, and the activity they display depends largely on trade with Mexico, since 37.6 and 16.2% of their Exports are directed to that country.

In the North American economy there are activities that depend largely on the commercial relationship with Mexico, such is the case of the textile, plastic and rubber industries, electrical equipment, metal manufacturing and mining, since the value of the exports of each sector sent to the abroad in 2015, those destined for Mexico represent 37.2, 32.2, 27.5, 22.7 and 21.5%, respectively.
