When and why did the united states enter world war 1? what was the significance of the entry of u. s. into the war?

    Late.

    The US joined the first world war in April, 1917. Why? Because President Wilson could no longer ignore the scale of the fighting. Germany started attacking every ship to approach Britain, which of course included US ships.

    I can't think of any real significance. Perhaps knowing the US had joined the war frightened the Germans and their allies into running away?
