Why did us official decide to leave saddam Hussein in charge of iraq after the Persian gulf war

The US let Saddam Hussein stay in power after the Persian Gulf War because:

• Saddam Hussein might go into hiding if they try to capture him. It would be near impossible to locate him if he goes.

• The US could not capture the leader without military consequences and large civilian casualties.

• There was no suitable leader for Iraq that its people would recognize.
