It was the major political party of the country which fought for the Independence of the country in the first half of u century and in later half it formulated the policies for the country to make it a leading economic force in the world. There is hardly any doubt over its secularist stand. Firmly establishing democracy in India, there were instances when leaders like Indira Gandhi made it look like a communist country. However, it soon changed because of the strong roots of democracy inbuilt in the country for many decades.
