How did the eastern roman empire evolve into the Byzantine empire?

After Constantine move the roman capital to Constantinople modern day Istanbul the start of the roman empire began so after the fall of the western roman empire fell, eastern Rome shrank into Byzantium which was held together by its spiritual values
