    Liverpool and Manchester railway is the inter-city railway which connected the two major cities and first ever railway which relied on locomotives which was driven by steam power.

    Explanation:

    Liverpool and Manchester are the two major commercial hubs in Great Britain and for the first time horse driven bulk wagons were replaced by steam engine locomotives. Liverpool and Manchester express is considered to be the first train which provided passenger service. The inaugural day of the passenger locomotive was grand and the people observed the train travel with awe and wonder. Eight trains were on the tracks from Liverpool station and the then prime minister. Arthur Wellington rode in one of the trains. A mishap was also recorded when one of the eight rails derailed and after which it was again repaired and brought back on the tracks for the successful trial run. Many people gathered near the tracks and happy to look at the first locomotive who greeted it with delight.
