Victory against Japan came 6 days after the American B-29 plane Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima City in Japan. It killed 70,000 people and destroyed a 5-square mile area of the city. The date was August 6, 1945.
A second bomb was dropped three days after. It killed 40,000 in Nagasaki. The day after that tragic event, Japan issued their surrender.
