I will mark brainliest! What was the Civil War all about? Was it about slavery? "States' rights"? The preservation of the Union? Why did so many Confederate and Union soldiers prove willing to fight and die for "the cause"?

    The civil war began April 12, 1861 and ended May 9, 1865. The civil war was predominantly about slavery, however there were other causes as well. States rights was also a big factor that contributed to the civil war. The Southern states formed the Confederate States of America and they were the ones who were in support of slavery because they relied on the labor of slaves to run their farms and homes. The North, as the Union, was against slavery. The reason behind their will to fight was different for every soldier. Some reasons may include patriotism, ideology, religion, ideals of duty and honor and manhood; glory and adventure; training and discipline; and coercion.
