    One of the main reasons for the World War I to occur was that some nations, like Germany and Austria-Hungary, were dissatisfied with the colonial holdings, and they thought that they should get a share of them. That of course was not seen fondly by the colonial powers, especially because they fought and invested in those colonies a lot, so the tensions grew.

    The colonial powers used the people from their colonies in their advantage in the World War I. The mobilized millions of people from the colonies, which turned out to be one of the key factors in winning the key battles of the war.
