Democracy is when the people get to choose their own leaders through election and normally people vote every after 4 years while monarchy is kind of like a royal type of government where kings and queens rule the country and when they die they pass their leadership on to their children so basically it's just a lifetime rule where people don't have to elect.

The main difference is between how people who rule are selected. In a democracy you choose your own leader through a popular vote, the majority decides. In a monarchy, the leader is considered to be royalty and to be the only one who is allowed to rule and it's usually based around a family of leaders and the person has absolute power. They can either be benevolent or malevolent dictators.
