    The new technology resulted in the growth of the industries, but this technology and powerful machineries allowed the factories to run 24 hours, 7 days a week, Workers, who were mostly urban poor, were forced into 12 hours shifts with meeting the safety standards which are followed today. It was difficult and unsafe for them.

    Apart from that, due to living in tenement housing, massive overcrowding and no proper way of waste disposal, the life of urban poor living in slums became unsafe. Diseases like Cholera and Yellow fever started to spread, Tuberculosis becames a massive killer. About 25% of the infants started to die after reaching the age of 1.
