100 $ fine, though later the verdict was overthrown

    Explanation:

The Scopes trial was a trial that got a lot of public attention in the US in 1925 when it was held. The trial was held in Dayton, Tennessee, and it was a trial in which the state sued the substitute teacher John T. Scopes because of alleged teaching the children about the evolution. The law in Tennessee was that the teaching of the evolution is forbidden in the state funded schools. The teacher was not even sure and could not remember was he ever teaching something like that, but nevertheless proceeded to court. Very famous lawyers got included in the case, and the case became very famous around the country. The end result was that the teacher was fined 100 $, but after that that was overthrown.
