to show support for the US's strongest economic partners

    Explanation:

One of the main reasons the US got into WWI was its fiscal policy. Unfortunately, America turned from the world's biggest debtor to its biggest creditor. That may sound like a good thing, but what it ultimately meant was that we had strong economic ties to the Allied Powers, because if they lost they couldn't pay back our loans. I know. Sounds callous, but that's politics.

Why not B: Entering the war shattered these policies. Wilson's attempts at isolationism were put on hold when America entered WWI.

Why not C: This is the opposite: American lives were lost in WWI, of course, and our entering the war, however delayed, ensured that.

Why not D: This isn't relevant. Logically, politicians care little about cultural connections with countries of immigrants. They'll jump into the melting pot someday! (Right?)
