Answer: President Donald Trump authorized an airstrike of an airfield in Syria. The purpose of this strike was, in part, to punish the Assad regime for using chemical weapons against its own people. This is the latest example of the United States getting involved in a foreign conflict.

Supporters of the U. S. engaging in foreign conflicts believe the U. S. has a duty to intervene and protect people from around the world from repressive or dangerous governments. According to members of this camp, the U. S. has a moral obligation to oppose oppressive governments.

Opponents of U. S. involvement in foreign conflicts believe that it is a waste of resources, lives, and money as the United States' immediate welfare is not at risk. Members of this camp conclude that U. S. resources should only be used when the benefits directly impact its citizens.
