People in the Southwest in the 1900s constructed pit houses and afterward started building houses above the ground. They used jacal to build the walls of the houses which was made up of vertical poles which were interwoven with twigs or branches. These walls were finally plastered on both sides with adobe that usually contained pebbles or stones.
