Although during the first half of the XVII century the population of Virginia fluctuated because of the constant immigration and the wars between settlers and indians; during the second half of the 1600s the population rate stabilized and started to grow in a steady pace.

This can be explained becuase the tobacco producers increased the workforce in the crops by attracting more European colonizers and by bringing African slaves. With the expansion of the tobacco fields due to the costs of the soil and the increasing of the workforce, the population rate tended to grow during these years.
