I think the best two adjectives are liberal and self-serving.
Liberal because it presents its opposition to Europe's colonial rule over America. This means that they want to break free from foreign control. The other one is self-serving. Even if they fought for their freedom, they don't want to interfere with other wars that Europe has been in its colonial expansion.
