    1. The cold war was/is a nuclear arms race between the US and Soviet Russia, which was a communist state. The US was so paranoid about communists on the inside over throwing their democracy that the House of Un-American Activities Commit (HUAC) was born. HUAC used scare tactics and propaganda to scare American citizens and keep them in check.
