In 2004 George Mark opened George Mark Children's House, the first free-standing pediatric palliative care center in the United States of America. At the time, these places existed in the UK, Australia, Canada and Germany, but the US was behind in the movement. Since its opening, there are now additional facilities popping up in the US.
