How did the Three-Fifths Compromise satisfy the North's and South's tensions over slavery?

The Three-Fifths Compromise enabled the south to hold the majority of representation in the House of Representatives since it was based on population of both free people and slaves. This enabled the less populated South to continue to have a disproportionate amount of representation. The North did not agree with this structure, and reached a compromise allowing slaves instead to represent 3/5's of a person, and enabling more equal representation in the House. The compromise allowed slave states to dominate the government of the United States until 1861, and perhaps was a forerunner of tensions that led to the civil war.
