In what way could we consider WWI to be a scientific war?

During WWI scientists developed faster modes of transportation thus ensuring an end to the stalemate that was trench warfare.

During WWI science was put to use in combating disease leading to a dramatic decline in the amount of soldiers falling to disease.

During WWI both sides put to use all the advancements of the industrial revolution and applied them to create better and deadlier weaponry.

During WWI there were major increases in food development and production in order to feed soldiers on the front.

    Explanation:

    The other explanations don't really fit since your just innovating or adding small features to what already exists. True sciences is used to combat something new or unknown and you invest heavy research into it. Modifying a truck or a weapon isn't so scientific but mostly an engineering feat but creating vaccines for disease is.
