The Battle of El Alamein revealed that Hitler was a true dictator who valued his reign more than he valued the lives of his men.

Instead of conceding defeat and have the remaining men retreat from war and stay alive, he ordered them to fight to the last. He considered the men his property; there to do his will even if he was not physically present to impose it.
