It created the basic freedoms and rights for all citizens

The Fundamental Orders of Connecticut gave men the right to vote and made them more eligible to run for elected positions. For the first time, this was exercised by non-church members that limited the power of the government. This order paved the way for a rational beginning to the fundamental rights of the people.
