The Norman who defeated an Anglo Saxon nobleman to take control of England after king Harold died in 1066 was William the Conqueror.

    Explanation:

William I, also known as William the Conqueror, was the first Norman King of England from Christmas 1066 until his death in 1087. He was also Duke of Normandy from 1035 until his death, under the name of William II. In 1066, William invaded England to reinforce his claims to the English crown. He led an army of Normans, Bretons, Flemish and French to victory over the troops of the English king Harold II in the Battle of Hastings. The subsequent English uprisings were suppressed by him in what became known as the Norman conquest of England.
