    The Compromise of 1850 included five laws enacted with the main objetctive of coping with the issue of slavery. Moreover, California had expressed the desire to join the union, which would create an imbalance between the free and slave states.

    The Compromise, promoted by the Senator Henry Clay, modified the Fugitive Slave Act using an amendment, banned the slave trade operations in Washington DC and California joined the union as a free state.
