Answer:They wanted complete control of Vietnam

Explanation:The Viet-Cong were willing to make the attack if it meant America would withdraw from Vietnam and the South would be on its own. So they did with the aid of Soviet Union also, I guess you can say brainwashed because they told them to do it and the Viet-Cong didn't at first but, if it meant Vietnam was theirs, they would do it.
