    Harlem renaissance is the period in which the African American literature was in its peak.

    Explanation:

    Many African Americans wrote sensitive poetry which highlighted the African american culture in a great manner. Phyllis Whitley who was enslaved in Boston dedicated her poems on various subjects religious and morals. She proved her mettle by expressing to the world that even a black man is capable of artistic expression as a white poet. The capability to write heart touching poetry proved that they were intellectual but sensitive and hence they became the victims of enslavement.

    African literature mostly expressed to be slave narrative which was in the form of essays, poetry and fictions which urged the whites to understand the richness of African American culture and take steps to stop slavery.
