The march leaders were "The Big Six" leaders of the civil rights movement. Their names: Philip Randolph, Whitney M. Young Jr., Martin Luther King Jr., James Farmer, Roy Wilkins and John Lewis. Bayard Rustin was the chief organizer. It took place on August 28, 1963. 250,000 people gathered at the Lincoln Memorial. On that ocassion, Dr. King delivered his famous "I Have A Dream" speech.
