    Explanation:

When General Andrew Jackson learned in 1818 that the Seminoles were gathering in Pensacola, which was a Spanish-controlled Florida at the time, he decided to invade Florida and take control of the Pensacola, thereby dispersing the Indians. He was eventually successful with his invasion and sacked the Indians who were occupying valuable lands and fighting the Whites who were trying to take their land away from them.

The removal of the Indians from their lands opened up these lands for the taking of the white farmers from other parts of America.

Therefore Silas who deals on cash crops requiring a large land for cultivation, would be excited to get himself a plantation in Florida.
