Now imagine that you are an Arab merchant who has traveled to either India or West Africa. You may choose the region that you are visiting for this task. Think of the items you might be selling. Also think about the places you might have visited. In addition, consider the cultural characteristics such as language and religion that you've come into contact with. Refer back to the lessons in the unit and do some research on the Internet as support for this activity. Next, write a short diary entry of about 75 to 100 words from the perspective of the merchant. Make sure you include information about the items traded, places visited, and the cultural characteristics of the region.

This morning I delivered the last shipment of slaves, I lost too many during the long journey from Gao crossing the desert and the sale price barely equates my losses. We have bargained the price for hours until we reach an agreement. I have got something good out of this habit and it has been the news about the good price that this year here in Surat have for essential oils. If tomorrow I get a good provider this trip will not be entirely in vain. Insha'Allah, I can still double profits if we specify the purchase of incense for the prices agreed today by my brother, who awaits me in Janjira, my presence would be opportune given my best Urdu domain. Now I will go to rest.
