Before the revolution in 1979, Iran was a crucial ally that the United States had in the Gulf area. Thus, following the revolution, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was wise and determined to seize this as an opportunity to the country that the United States could actually count on as a reliable ally. This would result to a win-win deal for both the United States and Saudi Arabia. The United States will be provided a base in the Gulf area, and provide Saudi Arabia with the much needed support during the hard days.
