What did British missionaries and colonists believe about their culture compared to Indian culture?

Both colonialists and missionaries believed Native rituals and beliefs were pagan and primitive, a satanic worshipping of nature and spirits (Anderson 2010). What both groups failed to appreciate was the complexity of these rituals and the role they played in the wider society and community of the Native Americans.
